This is a very unique Star Wars model as it is a diorama (which there are very few of), and it is large scale. It's pretty much one of a kind among the rest. The figure snap together but not very well so I would suggest cutting the locator pins off and gluing them together. They will require a lot of seam cleaning to be prepared. It's really kind of funny how they attach to the model. There is a small hole right in the butt of the figures that accepts a little locator pin on the floor of the base. Ahem. That's enough of that. Luke was painted Light Sea Gray and then lightly dry brushed with Dark Sea Gray. I then took that same color and painted it on his boots and other detail parts. His skin was painted Flesh and his hair was Sand with some Tan highlights dry brushed in. Yoda's cloak was painted Flat Light Aircraft Gray and then dry brushed with dark grays and Black. His skin was a slight mixing of Interior Green and a little white. I dry brushed a little regular Interior Green over that to bring out the details. His nails are the same Sandstone color as Luke's hair. R2-D2 was sprayed Silver on top and White on bottom. The details were painted in Silver, Black, Red and Medium Blue. I added some detail parts to his dome because it was missing a few. Since R2 had been swallowed by a Dragonsnake and was really, really dirty I decided to weather him a lot. I started by dry brushing a lot of browns all over him. I then did some washes with browns and black. After that I took an old toothbrush and splattered paint on him. I used a lot of different shades of brown and dipped the brush in in. I then aimed it at R2 and ran my finger down the bristles to flick the paint all over. Messy, but a good effect for the rainy, dirty, gross look R2 had in Empire. For the hut area I started by assembling it all and preparing it for painting. I sprayed the interior and the rear tree section Natural Wood. I had it drying outside and it started to rain making little spots all over it that actually helped with the look. I then dry brushed darker browns all over it and kept going darker until I had worked up some nice contrast. The stone area was sprayed Black and then misted with shades of gray and some White. I then sanded it a bit to give it a rough feeling. The snakes were painted various reptilian colors and dry brushed to bring out detail. The kit also comes with some detail pieces like Yoda's kitchenware and Luke's equipment boxes (not pictured). It's a nice model that is fun to show people because you can open it up and look inside. People tend to like interactive models and things that feel more "real" to them. I got this kit for about $5 from KBToys. |
