This is a really great kit of a very obscure subject. The TIE Crawler was seen in probably one frame in the comic Dark Empire strewn among debris on a Coruscant battlefield (probably a rooftop the way Coruscant goes!). The craft was featured in the Essential Guide To Vehicles and Vessels and this kit is an accurate representation of it. The 4ourth Axis gives you an MPC/ERTL TIE Interceptor (although I suggest the AMT/ERTL TIE Fighter) kit and some resin conversion pieces. The resin was pretty much perfect and needed little to no cleaning at all. The parts fit together well and there were no hang ups. The three guns are several different small pieces so you really have to be careful. The body of the TIE Interceptor required a little trimming to fit the pieces right, but it was along pre-molded lines so it was very easy. Painting came up very quickly. I base coated everything in Model Master Intermediate Blue. I usually use a very light blue or gray for my TIE variants, but I felt Intermediate Blue gave a more embattled hardened look to it. Weathering was tricky as is always the case with Star Wars. The Empire dumps all of their pilot washouts into TIE Crawlers and they see a lot of grunt action so it is safe to assume the Empire doesn't care much about them. That's why I decided to heavily weather this one. I started off by dry brushing black, browns and tans along the tank treads. I then dry brushed a little black all around. I dry brushed some more browns near the heaviest weather spots like around the treads, underneath and in front. I also added some paint chips here and there. I then washed everything in a nasty black to really up the ante. I also drilled a small hole in the main gun on the bottom for accuracy. All in all this was a great kit that I recommend due to ease of construction and its unique subject matter. It was available from The 4ourth Axis for $40 or $35 depending on whether or not you want the Interceptor kit, but they have apparently stopped sales of it.
