This is the companion piece to the SMT 1/53 AT-AT Imperial Walker. This was a quick build with only a few snafus. As for accuracy, it is pretty good. Most things are simplified for scale's sake but it looks really good. Some of the parts were pretty brittle like the radiator fins, harpoon gun and engine housings. Resin isn't very kind to small parts. Most of mine broke in the building process so be careful with yours. The only other problem I had was the guns. It's a little tricky to get both to line up right because there are no markings on the hull where each part of the assembly goes. Other than that, no problems. For painting, I based in Camo Gray and worked out from there. I tried to decide whether to do red or gray stripes and eventually chose gray. I regret this choice now as they don't stand out very well and don't make much contrast. For weathering I did a lot of airbrushing and some wash streaks. I just put a little thinned out gray/black on the beginning of the streak and wipe it backward with my finger or a rag. I also did something I don't do very often and made some little silver flecks in the paint. In looking at the studio models I saw that this was pretty abundant on the Snowspeeder so I went for it. I think it adds a nice touch to the wear edges. To finish it off I put a wash into the panel lines to bring them out. I got this kit directly from SMT in a package deal with the AT-AT. Unfortunately this kit is no longer available as SMT has ceased production of all Star Wars related kits. |
