I love this kit. I really like the shape and the Snowspeeder in general. This kit faithfully portrays the subject. It's generally pretty accurate and is a good size at 1/22. The only glaring problem with the kit is the pilots. I have heard them likened to monkeys. To fit them in the craft, MPC had to make sacrifices as far as accuracy. Let's just say these fellas could tie their shoes without bending over! I've seen some people that have attempted to accurize this fault and succeeded quite well. The cockpit detail is really nice and offers plenty of chances for dry brushing and detailing. The decal for the main view screen is really neat. It portrays the Battle Of Hoth with a bunch of AT-ATs looming in the distance on the scopes. There is also plenty of raised detail on the outside of the speeder that looks really great. It's not entirely accurate so you may want to try to change that. The air brakes on the rear of the ship can be glued in place or attached to hinges and opened and closed. If you have one open and one closed, it makes it look like the ship is taking a hard turn. Mount it tilted and it will really add to the effect. Construction wasn't very difficult. I had a little trouble getting everything to hold together in the end and had to use some super glue on it. Funny story about that, I had the main speeder body together and was leaning it on my stomach with the two points in front forward. I was putting the glue into the hull in the rear of the craft and the glue just seemed to be disappearing. I couldn't figure out what the heck was happening until I tried to move. The glue had run down the inside of the hull and out a small hole in one of the front prongs. The speeder was glued to my jacket! To add to that, my jacket was glued to my shirt, my shirt to my undershirt and my undershirt to my stomach!!! Trust me, it was a LOT of glue and it dried real fast. I stood up and the speeder stuck out from my stomach for a second like it had crashed and stuck in to me. I experienced a great deal of pain separating my shirts from my stomach. I still have a hard little pyramid dent in my jacket where the ship was stuck in. Ok, back to the kit. To add some pizzazz I melted some blast marks into the hull with a wood burner. I airbrushed these black and then dry brushed some silver on it. For the stripes, I masked off the area and painted it by hand. I look back now and am amazed that it actually worked. If you're gonna do that, use blue masking tape, not the tan stuff. Or better yet, Tamiya masking tape! Ok, I think I've talked enough about this kit. I got it for $10 off Yahoo! auctions back when they actually had stuff. |
