This is an all resin model kit of C-3PO (See Threepio) as he appeared in Episode One: The Phantom Menace. Despite many viewers' disappointment with the first Star Wars Prequel, one of the great things about the movie was that we got to see the origin of C-3PO. We saw him in all his naked glory as Anakin was building him. This kit represents his pre-skin days and is loaded with interesting detail to represent all the inner workings of everyone's favorite protocol droid. The kit comes from Lava Models from China who has since gone out of business. It comes cast in 11 solid resin pieces. At 1/6 scale it is a good size as well; around 12 inches. Upon first inspection, the casting looks superb. I could not find a single bubble. It also looks as if minimal cleanup will be necessary as there are no major seam lines to clean. It may take some extra detailing in certain areas to disguise any gaps, but this can easily be accomplished with some small gauge wire or greeblies. The detailing looks great and accurate enough for the average viewer. The pelvic area seems a little under-detailed and innacurate so I may rebuild that. I haven't decided yet. All in all it seems to be a very nice kit of a very interesting subject that I haven't seen done before in kit form. For $30 off of eBay, it was well worth the price. |
